We closely monitor the rapidly evolving Coronavirus situation

The World Health Organisation has declared COVID 19 a global pandemic. Your specialist orthodontist is closely monitoring the rapidly evolving coronavirus situation and following the advice of the Australian Government and local health authorities.

Please be advised that due to government advice that all non-essential dental services wind down operations, most orthodontists will be temporarily closing in the coming weeks. The advice may vary by state and at this stage is not a blanket shutdown. We recommend you contact your treating orthodontist for more information about whether they have closed, how you can maintain your treatment in the coming weeks and what to do in case of emergency.

If your orthodontist remains open or if you’re having one final appointment to passivate your treatment before they close, there are some things you can do to help keep everyone safe.

How can I continue to receive orthodontic treatment during this time?
Some things you can do to reduce the risk of contracting or spreading the virus throughout the community include:

Washing your hands thoroughly before and after entering the clinic. Some orthodontic practices are providing alcohol hand sanitisers at reception or at check in counters, which should be used when entering and when you have completed your appointment
Avoid coming to your appointment early or late to reduce the number of people in the waiting room.
Only bring essential accompanying adults to your appointment to avoid unnecessary risk or ask your parent/guardian to wait for you in your vehicle
Ensure you reschedule your appointment if you or anyone from your household have returned from travel within the past 14 days
Reschedule your appointment if you or a family member is currently feeling unwell, have a temperature or are experiencing any respiratory symptoms

Despite the implementation of strict infection control procedures, many orthodontic clinics are taking additional precautions to protect the community, to aid reduction of the spread of disease. To be socially responsible, some practices are closing their clinics or rescheduling non-essential appointments.

Individuals undergoing treatment with clear aligners may be able to reschedule their appointments to a later date and have their aligners posted to them to enable continued progression of their orthodontic treatment .

Some orthodontic practices offer teledentistry – whereby you are able to communicate and obtain advice regarding the progress of your treatment via apps, emails and video conferencing. Please contact your clinician for any further information.

Your health and safety is their number one priority so ensure you speak to your orthodontist about any concerns you may have.
